It was so hard to find beautiful accessories that were fashion forward yet well-made, luxurious yet priced affordably. Few things on the market were distinctly beautiful with a meaningful story; everything felt vacant of soul. I didn’t want obnoxious brands or empty fast fashion. I wanted indie-luxe and cool. Jenny Bird grew up in a tiny, rural, artistic community in Ontario, Canada and was born into a family of farmers and seamstresses. From a young age Bird was active in art programs, and crafted wares she would sell to her family out of their living room.
Self-taught in accessories design, in 2008 Bird bravely chose to start down the path of her dreams with a collection of luxury handbags she had produced in a New York Garment District factory. The capsule collection captured rave reviews and a coveted Trunk Show at New York’s prestigious Henri Bendel on Fifth Ave. In a short-time Bird expanded her eponymous line of handbags to include a collection of jewelry, executed in her covetable Indie-Luxe aesthetic.
A talented designer and stylist, Bird continues to focus on creating pieces she feels are missing in the market. Its been working. Today, Jenny Bird pieces are regularly spotted on trend-setting shows, in the pages of top magazines, and have a devoted celebrity following. In recognition of her inspiring contributions to the Canadian industry, in 2011 Bird was named one of the Canadian faces of Yves Saint Laurent’s YSL Beauté, and now represents YSL Beauté brand as a brand ambassador.
As Creative Director of what has become one of the world’s top emerging designer accessory lines, Bird splits her time between her home in Toronto and her creative hub, New York. Now carried at over 600 fashion-forward boutiques and retailers, the line is a notable Canadian success story and is enjoying steady growth worldwide.
